Abstract
Victims are not new to society nor are the offenders, but it has been noticed that victims are taken as witnesses and always the focus is on the offenders and the crime. During early1900’s some of the criminologists and sociologists started talking about victims and their rights. They worked to shape the modern present day criminology, and introduced the term victimology to this world. Today victimology is a branch of criminology which talks about the victims, their victimization and protection who have certain rights which cannot be denied. Some of the criminologists, social workers, anthropologists and jurists came forward and started speaking about the rights of the victims and tried to find why certain people become victims. Victim typologies suggested that many times people become victims because of their own deeds and sometimes landing at the wrong place at the wrong time. The present day victimology focuses on rights of victims and wants to change the perspective of the society towards the victim, though it's not a herculean task only a change of mindset, the victims only needs support, trust, respect and does not want to feel ostracized without any fault.
