Offences relating to children with reference to Posco act 2012- A study

Abstract
The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012 is a landmark legislation that aims to protect children from sexual abuse, harassment and exploitation in India. The Act defines various forms of sexual offences against children and provides for stringent punishments for the perpetrators. The Act also lays down the procedures for reporting, investigation, trial and rehabilitation of the victims. This paper examines the salient features of the POCSO Act, 2012 and its implementation in India. It also analyses the challenges and limitations of the Act and suggests some measures to improve its effectiveness and efficiency. The paper concludes that the POCSO Act, 2012 is a progressive and comprehensive law that needs to be enforced with more awareness, sensitivity and coordination among various stakeholders.
