Abstract

Female Genital Mutilation is a widespread practice in Asian, African as well as Middle East countries. The practice involves altering or cutting sensitive female genitals by using unsterilized sharp instruments, many times with a medical assistance. The purpose of such practice lies in certain customary beliefs among people which include maintaining virginity and chastity of females. However, FGM is a grave violation of human rights. It is highly discouraged and even prohibited by many nations along with global restraints created by international laws.

This research paper endeavors to study FGM along with its impact on health of young girls who are made to undergo the same. This paper also addresses the point that FGM is not only a violation of fundamental human entitlements but also a form of child abuse.
