Abstract
Female Genital Mutilation
is a widespread practice in Asian, African as well as Middle East countries.
The practice involves altering or cutting sensitive female genitals by using
unsterilized sharp instruments, many times with a medical assistance. The
purpose of such practice lies in certain customary beliefs among people which
include maintaining virginity and chastity of females. However, FGM is a grave
violation of human rights. It is highly discouraged and even prohibited by many
nations along with global restraints created by international laws.
