Abstract
The Population Control Bill in India has ignited extensive debate,
emphasizing the complex interrelation between legal mandates, socio-economic
impacts, and ethical considerations in population management. The legal
analysis section examines the constitutional framework governing reproductive
rights, focusing on Articles 14 (Right to Equality), 21 (Right to Life and
Personal Liberty), and 47 (Directive Principles of State Policy) of the Indian
Constitution. It scrutinizes relevant Supreme Court judgments and case studies
to highlight potential legal challenges and controversies associated with the
bill, including conflicts with fundamental rights, ethical dilemmas, and the
potential for public interest litigation. The paper also assesses the
socio-economic implications of the proposed bill. Demographic trends and
projections illustrate the urgency of implementing population control measures.
The economic impact on labor markets, public resources, and infrastructure is
evaluated, alongside the social and cultural ramifications such as shifts in
family structures, gender dynamics, and effects on marginalized communities.
Public perception and cultural resistance are also considered, underlining the
importance of societal acceptance for successful policy implementation.
