Critical issues in the administration of criminal justice in Nigeria

Abstract
The justice sector in Nigeria continues to be
an inalienable part of one of the arms of Government in Nigeria. Just like every
other sector in Nigeria, the justice sector is not without its challenges. The
judiciary and the police which are the main arms of Government that administer
this sector grapple with a myriad of challenges on a regular basis. This
article considers some of the critical issues which include but are not limited
to the Role of the police in criminal justice, Endemic corruption, Remand Proceedings,
Delay in the Investigation and Detection of Crime, Insecurity and the
Administration of Justice, sentencing, among others. This paper also makes
recommendations that can help address these issues which in recent times have
continued to be a clog in the wheel of progress of the administration of
justice in Nigeria.
